What You Need To Know When Moving To Riyadh

Among all the countries in the world, Saudi Arabia is one of the few places that has a very promising future for a lot of careers. Professionals, engineers, construction workers, medical professionals and other professions have no doubt about the good future that this country can provide to them. Job opportunities are all over the place. Nurses, beauty professionals, and others find themselves making Riyadh in Saudi their first choice in searching for a greener pasture.
 
If you are one of these people who are considering moving to Riyadh, there are just some things you need to know to avoid being culture shock. Take note that this is another culture you are getting in. It is important that you know them before deciding to live in the country. To help you out, here are 10 things to know when moving to Riyadh.

The religion. You should know that in Saudi Arabia, no other religion is allowed except for Islam. If you are caught practicing another religion, you may be punished by the law. This includes bringing Bibles and any religious literature. It cannot be brought into the country. 

The clothing. In Saudi, they are quite strict with the women's clothing. In public places, they are required to wear a full length black cloak or also known as abaya. They are also advised to wear a full length dress or trousers plus high-necked and long sleeved garments underneath them. In case there are religious policies that require the women to wear a headscarf, a headscarf should be worn. This is why it would be best for women to carry a headscarf wherever they go.

The transportation. For women, they are not allowed to drive around. Women should get used to being driven around and chauffeured. Also, when she is driven on a car not her husband, it is important to take note that the women should not be seated parallel to the driver. 

The conversation. In Saudi, it is forbidden to have a small talk with the opposite sex, especially in public places. It is only in hospitals that they are allowed.

The payday. Because payday is given only once a month, it is important that you get your budgeting skills mastered.

The food. Because the country is a Muslim country, except that you can't eat bacon, ham or any meat products. It is highly forbidden. It would be best to try different products other than meat.

The work permit. In Saudi, you will need an identification card with you and this can be met by getting a work permit or what they call as iqama. It would serve as your identification.

The law. In Saudi, punishment is immediate so never thought of going against the law.

The relationship. This is also the country that does not tolerate any public displays of affection. It is important that you keep your affection to your partner private.

The facial hair. Facial hair means complete masculinity. For men, it is important to have their facial hair grown. This is to avoid any untoward incident.
